Malva sylvestris

Malva sylvestris
Common Mallow
Mauve des bois

Used medicinally for centuries; seeds and dried leaves are used in a tea as a diuretic; leaves are made into a poultice as an emollient for wounds
Flowers were spread on doorways and woven into garlands for celebrating May Day
Leaves are used in soups because they are mucilaginous and therefore naturally thickening

Bloom 5.20.13, alongside a road through a vineyard in Lacoste

In Situ, 5.22.13, Lacoste valley

Palmately lobed leaves
